Game Development Tools & Game Engines
"Game Design Tools for Independant Game Developers" |
|---|

IndieGameTools.com is a list of all the tools that you need to create video games. Independant developers share experiences on the best tools and game engines available. To get started you should select a Tool Function, and optionally, a Tool Qualifier or specific keywords from the pull down boxes at the top of the webpage and hit the submit button.
If you are an experienced indie game developer then please join the thousands of Indies that have already helped make this database such an important resource and take a few minutes
to vote or to tell us your most important, most useful, or your favorite tools and game engines.
If enough developers help us out just a little then this site will itself become
a useful tool.
Thanks,

Besides, most packages don't say a version number along with it.. Since the differences between some versions is quite significant! (e.g. 3d Max 5 or 2009 is quite a difference.. )

Torque 3D isn't released yet, I will include when it releases. I could have sworn the other names you mentioned were in here also... I know that I researched them at one point anyway. But they didn't come up on my cursory search... I'll make sure. Please search the database first. Thanks.
As to your second comment about versions, I agree that different versions of the software are very different. The individual tool pages have a special tab for differentiating the quality of different versions.
Thanks again for commenting... you've helped us out alot and I appreciate it!

The original site did include text editors but I removed them for my own sanity. A couple months after I started the site I chose to narrow the scope to eliminate the following catagories: editors, databases, cms, server, video, debugging, and collaboration software. I found there were thousands upon thousands of possible entries in these categories and I simply couldn't keep up. I also found other sites were attempting to rate software development tools unrelated to games and I was pretty sure I couldn't do as good a job.
If I were to get strong support for any of these categories and a little help as to which ones are really being used for game development then I'd consider bringing a category back. For example I brought debugging back by request although I know full well that I have not included all of the possible debugging tools that are available out there. Btw, I use a few different editors for different things but XHTML/HTML-Kit are two of my favorites for web development work.
